Christy Holly is a Native Californian born and raised in the San Fernando Valley.
I’m “totally” a Valley Girl at heart. I graduated from Sylmar High School in 1988. I went to Pierce College for two years and played on the softball team. (we were NOT good!) I worked at the San Fernando Superior Courthouse for 13 years up until I had my first child.
Some people have really big dreams and ambitions, some people want to be movie stars, doctors, firefighters, writers or even politicians, not me. My lifelong dream has always been to marry a wonderful man and to have lots of babies. I have always known that I wanted to be a mom! I wanted to be a stay at home mom and raise my own children if that were at all possible, just like my mom did. My dreams came true!! I met and fell in love with my husband, Greg and we will celebrate our 8th anniversary this October. We have three really great kids!!!!! Hannah is 6, Parker is 4 and Nicholas is 2. Being married to a Los Angeles City Firefighter it is my duty and my honor to share him with the good people of Los Angeles. He is at work for 24hours at a time and sometimes he will be at the fire station for 3 or 4 days straight. I am a single mom during those times and my hands are full–did I mention my “escape artist” St. Bernard, Stella? or our 12 chickens? It’s not always easy juggling everything, but I wouldn’t trade any of it! Partly because of the economy and the “need” to find and identify myself again I started working from home. I’ve been working for Motherhood Incorporated when I can and I am involved with a network marketing company and I am also a Notary and a Loan Signing Agent.
My greatest accomplishments are of course, my children. I am proud of how they are developing in to their own persons–all strong and confident and I love to see how well they are thriving day after day!!!! I’m really proud of myself for raising money for APLA and The Leukemia lymphoma society. By raising money I was able to train and complete the Chicago Marathon and The San Francisco Treasure Island Triathlon.

Our parents are a key part of our lives. They were there when we were born, obviously, and they raised us to be the strong, independent, hard-working people we are today . They took care of us through many of life’s new experiences: our first day of school, losing our first tooth, our first school crush, our first time driving a car, prom, high school and college graduations. They nursed when we were sick and kissed our boo boos to make them better.
But as time goes on our parents grow older and we end up finding ourselves caring for our parents. When did the roles switch? Sometimes it seems that it happens overnight. Soon it is us nursing them when they are ill, running errands for them or taking them to doctor’s appointments and out shopping. Sometimes its just being there to listen when they need to talk, even if it’s listening to the same old story one more time.Â
For some the task of caring for their aging parent can be complicated by Alzheimer’s disease or senile dementia. For those people there are resources to help them care for their loved one. You can contact your local senior center for lists of these resources or contact a local hospital about caregiver support groups.Â
At times, the task of caring for your aging parent can be overwhelming but when you look back on the sacrifices our parents made for us it makes it all worth it.
In 2006, Andi Hurley developed an interest in using blogs to keep the military community connected and supported, so she founded SpouseBUZZ.com, a blog authored by military spouses, for military spouses. SpouseBUZZ focuses on the daily grind of milspouse life.

Since leaving Washington, Andi has continued to work with military non-profits in a variety of ways. Andi is married to an active-duty soldier.

Balloons, Small Business Blogs, sandra beck, sandrabeck.com, motherhood incorporated, motherhoodincorporated, motherhoodincorporated.com, starting a small business, small business blog series,
You’d really like to start your own business but you have no idea what kind of business to start. The first thing to do is make a list of all of the reasons why you would like to own a small business. If you are looking for the freedom to create your own schedule you probably won’t want to open a business that is centered on the sale of food. However you might want to consider a service based business that has a flexible time line. If you are interested in financial security, you probably won’t want to open a business that requires maintaining a huge inventory. You may want to consider buying a business that has an existing client base.
You also want to consider what your interests are. What are you passionate about? Starting a business and growing it to be a successful concern takes energy and passion. Don’t make the mistake of devoting your time and energy to something that doesn’t really flip your switch. Life is too short to spend it on something you don’t love. If cupcakes are your passion consider all of the different businesses you could create around cupcakes. It’s important to fully research whatever business you decide to go into, which we will talk about in the next article. At this phase, though, don’t be afraid to think out of the box. Is it cupcakes that you really love or is it simply decorating cupcakes? It may make the difference of whether you open a bakery or give private cupcake decorating parties.
Lastly you need to consider what your limitations are. Do you need to start this business with virtually no capital? Buying a franchise or a turn key business is going to be out of the question. Do you have capital but not a lot of time to spend “finding your way?” If that is the case a franchise or turn key could be the ideal situation for you. Take into consideration whether you need to work from home or if you are someone who likes to keep your home removed from your work environment. Do you have time constraints because of your spouse’s job or your children’s schedules?Â
Take the time to consider all of your desires and limitations now, so when you find the business of your dreams you can start to build the lifestyle of your dreams. In the next Article we will talk about researching perspective businesses.
